The Northwest Organization of Nurse Executives (NWONE) exists to
advance the health and wellness of individuals and the communities
in which they live and work through the continual development of
its members as leaders of the clinical discipline of nursing and as
specialist in administrative practice. NWONE is an affiliated local
group (ALG) of the American
Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE).
How NWONE Was Born
NWONE was formed January 1, 1996 when the Oregon Organization of
Nurse Executives (OONE) and the Washington Organization of Nurse
Executives (WONE) merged their organizations. WONE was incorporated
in 1985 as a non-profit organization; in 1996, the organization
name was changed to NWONE as a result of the merger with OONE. The
425-plus members of NWONE include nurse leaders across the
continuum of care and in nursing education in both Oregon and
Washington, with some members who are outside of the Pacific
Northwest.
What We Do
NWONE serves as a valuable resource to its members in enhancing
their leadership practice. The organization is recognized in both
states and throughout the western region of the United States for
proactively addressing health care issues such as the redesign of
care environments, evidence based practice, leadership and
delegation skills for nurses, quality and safety in patient care,
health workforce planning and the creation of healthy work
environments.
NWONE is a knowledge-based, learning organization that draws on
research findings and supports research. It is an interactive
organization that is flexible in forecasting and responding to the
dynamic needs of its members.
